How the 14-day evaluation works

It starts by itself

The evaluation begins the moment a site owner finishes set-up on a site. There is no form, no key and no card.

Every feature, everyone

Search, profiles, the Discover decks, Who's Who, favourites and collections, kudos, agents, the org chart, celebrations, data health, change requests, the Viva Connections cards and every setting, for everyone who can open the site.

Then read-only, nothing lost

After the 14 days, search, browse and profiles keep working read-only until you buy a licence. Saving and changing things (favourites, collections, skills, kudos, change requests, contacts and settings) needs the licence key; taking a choice back, such as a birthday, a name recording, kudos or a place on the scoreboard, always works. What you set up is kept.

Install in about ten minutes

You need SharePoint Online in Microsoft 365, a SharePoint administrator for step 1 and a site owner for the rest. No Microsoft Graph permission is needed to start.

  1. Add the app. Find DirectoryPoint on Microsoft Marketplace and choose Get it now, or upload the package to your tenant app catalog. Keep "Add to Teams" ticked if you want the Teams app.
  2. Add the web part. On a modern SharePoint site, create a page, add "DirectoryPoint Employee Directory" from the toolbox (group Advanced) and publish the page. A full-width section gives the most room.
  3. Run set-up. Open the page as a site owner and choose Set up. DirectoryPoint creates its lists on that site in about a minute. Your 14-day evaluation starts here.
  4. Look around. Search for a colleague, open a profile, try the Discover deck and save someone to Favourites. A small tenant can switch to the clearly labelled Demo directory of fictional people (Settings, Directory source) to see every screen full.
  5. Choose your tier (optional). DirectoryPoint runs on the Basic tier with no Microsoft Graph permission. For job titles, filters, the full org chart, photos and data checks, a Global Administrator approves the read-only User.Read.All permission in the SharePoint admin center, under Advanced, API access. What each permission adds.
  6. Large organisations (optional). DirectoryPoint chooses how to load the directory by its size: live up to about 2,000 people, a copy on each person's device up to 30,000 on the Standard tier, and at any size a snapshot a site owner publishes under Settings, Directory size and snapshot. Search-first mode is there too, for organisations that hide people from the address list.
  7. Add it to Teams (optional). In Microsoft Teams, open Apps, Built for your org, and add DirectoryPoint as a personal app, or as a tab in a channel of a team whose site has DirectoryPoint set up. In a shared or private channel the tab opens that channel's own site. Teams asks for the microphone only when someone chooses to record how they say their name.
  8. Add the cards to Viva Connections (optional). Edit your Viva Connections dashboard and add the DirectoryPoint cards: Find someone, Your favourites, New joiners and Celebrations today. Each card opens the DirectoryPoint page on the same SharePoint host.

The full install, set-up and test guide

What you need

  • Microsoft 365 with SharePoint Online
  • A tenant app catalog (most organisations have one)
  • A site owner to run set-up

  • Optional: Microsoft Teams for the personal app and tabs
  • Optional: a Viva Connections dashboard for the cards

Works with Microsoft 365 Business, Enterprise and Education plans that include SharePoint Online.

When you are ready to buy

Choose the plan for the number of people your directory lists, from £295 a year. Every plan has every feature, and education and charities get 30 percent off. A site owner enters the licence key in DirectoryPoint under Settings, Licence, and it takes over at once: nothing you set up during the evaluation is lost.

Before you install

Your directory data stays in your Microsoft 365 tenant, in SharePoint lists on your DirectoryPoint site. Once a day DirectoryPoint sends Apps 365 a small licence check-in (tenant ID, site addresses, app version, licence state, plan and licence ID; never names, profiles or keys), which a site owner can switch off. Daily usage totals with no names stay on your site, and a site owner can switch them off too.
